Today, former Wimbledon winner Richard Krajicek held a tennis clinic for children in our center. Exercise is very important for children who are being treated for cancer. It has a positive effect on the healing process. But it also means interaction with other children and that is important when you are ill.
The tennis clinic is a good example of an activity from the Maximum Movement program; a program that the Princess Máxima Center uses for children with cancer. We were very pleased that Richard Krajicek came to hold the tennis clinic. Richard was challenged by many children to a 'game' of tennis. Afterwards, there was an opportunity for photographs and of course for getting his signature.
'Máximaal bewegen'
Our program 'Maximaal bewegen' aims to encourage children with cancer to exercise more, both during and after their stay at the hospital. This leads to a decrease in the negative effects of non-exercise, such as obesity, osteoporosis, fatigue and loss of strength. The program is also aimed at making group sports possible and thus contributing to the social development of the child. It also increases the children's independence. Children who are physically stronger can do more themselves.
