Ingredients

For the cheese sticks

  • 2 thick slices young Gouda cheese

  • 50 grams flour

  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • 50 grams plain breadcrumbs

For the asparagus sticks

  • 500 grams green asparagus

  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • 50 grams flour

  • 125 grams plain breadcrumbs

  • 50 grams grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs

  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

Cheese sticks

  1. Preheat the deep fryer to 175°C.

  2. Cut the cheese into 12 long sticks.

  3. Dip the cheese first in the beaten egg, then in the flour, and finally in the breadcrumbs.

  4. Repeat the process with the egg and breadcrumbs for an extra crispy coating.

  5. Fry the cheese sticks until golden brown, then place them on paper towels to drain. Let cool slightly.

Asparagus sticks

  1. Preheat the oven to 210°C.

  2. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

  3. Trim 2–3 centimeters off the woody ends of the asparagus.

  4. Mix the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, and Italian herbs together.

  5. Dip the asparagus first in the beaten egg, then in the flour, and finally in the breadcrumb mixture.

  6. Place the coated asparagus on the tray and bake for 5 minutes. Turn them over and bake for another 5 minutes.

  7. Season with pepper to taste.

Storage advice

Keep in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
