Bedside visits by ward

• Molen/Kasteel

  On the Molen and Kasteel wards, neurosurgical and neuro-oncological visits take place. The medical and nursing team comes to your child’s bedside. They discuss how things have gone over the past few days, review results, and make a plan together with you for the coming days.

  How the visits work:

  • The nurse briefly explains how things are going.

  • The resident discusses check-ups and results.

  • You and your child can always ask questions or add anything.

  • Is more time needed? Then we schedule a separate appointment.

  Neurosurgical visits:

  • Monday through Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. (with neurosurgeon and neurologist)

  • Thursday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. (without neurosurgeon)

  • Duration: up to 5 minutes per child

  Neuro-oncological visits:

  • Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m.

  • Other days: in the doctors’ room

  • Duration: up to 15 minutes per child

• Tafel/Brug and Schommel/Bank 

  On the Tafel/Brug and Schommel/Bank wards, bedside visits take place every day. The team discusses the progress of the treatment, checks such as temperature and blood values, and the plan for the coming days.

  How the visits work:

  • At the start of the week, you are informed about the order of the rounds.

  • Rounds take place from Tuesday through Friday, starting at 9:30 a.m.

  • Duration: up to 15 minutes per child.

  During the visits, we discuss current progress, any necessary checks, and the plan for the coming days. We place great importance on clear language, privacy, and involving your child in the conversation.

  Who is present during the visits?

  • Resident

  • Supervising physician (usually a pediatric oncologist)

  • Nurse

  • Sometimes a child life specialist

• Boomhut

  On the Boomhut ward, surgical visits take place every day. The team meets with you at your child’s bedside to discuss the situation and create a treatment plan, which is shared with you and your child right away.

  You can always ask questions or raise important points during the conversation.
