Princess Máxima Center nominated for the Health Valley Bridge Award
28 februari 2019
Seven healthcare organizations from across the Netherlands competed on Monday, February 18, with a project on Robotics or Blockchain for a place in the finals of the Health Valley Bridge Award. The jury selected Maastricht UMC+ and the Princess Máxima Center as winners. The audience chose Radboudumc as the Wildcard winner. These three innovative projects will move on to the final on March 14 during the Health Valley Event at Pathé Nijmegen.
Princess Máxima Center: Robots for medication preparation
Rogier Lange, hospital pharmacist, and Renske Karens–Van Vliet, care team leader, presented the Princess Máxima Center project. Our aim is to offer the highest possible quality and safety for children with cancer. By preparing as many medications as possible in the pharmacy, we help reduce the workload for nurses. To make this possible, two innovative robots have been purchased, never before used in Europe. These robots can prepare infusion bags and syringes with great precision, which is essential for the low doses often required for children. The products are labeled immediately after preparation and are ready to administer. The robots have been in use since January 21.
To ensure absolute reliability, an additional quality control step is needed. We are currently testing a device for this, but we do not yet have the budget to purchase it. The Health Valley Bridge Award would provide valuable support to help us take this final step.
Final
On March 14, 2019, during the largest healthcare innovation conference in the Netherlands, the Health Valley Event at Pathé Nijmegen, the expected 1,250 visitors will select the winner through a live vote. The nominees have a chance to win 20,000 euros.
