Maan named new ambassador of the Princess Máxima Center
2 augustus 2019
On Friday, August 2, we asked singer Maan to become an ambassador for the Princess Máxima Center.
Maan: ‘I want to support the children and their wellbeing through music and personal connection.’
Maan visited the Máxima Center for the first time during the opening of the Princess Máxima Center. Together with the children’s choir Kinderen voor Kinderen and ambassadors Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, she gave an impressive performance of a song written especially for the opening by Tjeerd Oosterhuis. Today, she returned to the Máxima Center to give a short concert for the children. During her visit, Maan was surprised with the invitation to become an ambassador.
Maan: ‘When I first came to the Princess Máxima Center, I saw children, just a little younger than I am, who were facing major challenges during treatment. Anything I can do to make their journey a bit lighter and bring a smile to their faces, even for a moment, means so much to me. I hope that physicians and researchers will make important progress in the coming years and that we can move closer to ending this disease.’
Rob Pieters, chief medical director of the Princess Máxima Center, member of the Executive Board and professor of pediatric oncology, about the new ambassador: ‘Maan represents the children at the Máxima Center. Many of them are big fans of hers. With her beautiful voice and cheerful presence, she brings real support to our children. She has also contributed several times with special performances during the Princess Máxima Center Foundation gala, which makes her a versatile ambassador.’
With this ambassadorship, Maan supports the mission of the Princess Máxima Center: ‘to cure every child with cancer, with the best possible quality of life’. Each year, around 600 children in the Netherlands are diagnosed with cancer. One in four children still dies from the disease.
