First LATER Meet-up a Success

20 september 2022

On Thursday evening, 22 September, the first LATER Meet-up took place. The event was organized by M4C LATER and VOX, the survivor group of the Dutch Childhood Cancer Association. During the Meet-up, survivors and their loved ones had the opportunity to meet each other and talk informally with health care professionals.

Topics included mental well-being and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Short pitches by Dr. Rianne Koopman, head of the LATER clinic, Drs. Alied van der Aa, healthcare psychologist at the LATER clinic, Dr. Saskia Pluijm, senior researcher in late effects, and Lucy Fremouw MSc, oncology physical therapist, led to lively discussions. Survivors shared what they need and what matters to them. Dr. Andrica de Vries moderated the discussion. All input will be used to further develop LATER care.

The new LATER website was also launched during the Meet-up. This platform expands the information available about life after childhood cancer.

The LATER platform was made possible by 'the 24 Hours of Woerden' event. Earlier, we received a check for 36.000 euros for this project, part of the proceeds from their walking event. During the Meet-up, we received an additional check for 2.500 euros, a pleasant surprise.
