KinderOncoNet live: healthcare professionals invited to join

As of today, paramedics, psychologists, and rehabilitation physicians can join KinderOncoNet, a multidisciplinary care network for pediatric oncology in The Netherlands. By sharing knowledge, exchanging experiences, and working in a multidisciplinary way, they can provide the best care to children with cancer, both during and after their treatment.

The network is an initiative of the Princess Máxima Center, the Dutch National Childhood Cancer Association, and UMC Utrecht, and focuses on providing care close to home for children with cancer. Pediatric oncologist and Clinical Director Wouter Kollen from the Princess Máxima Center: “Since 2018, all children with cancer from across the Netherlands come to the Máxima Center in Utrecht. For highly complex care, this is essential, but there is also a need for high-quality care close to home, both during and after treatment. Our successful collaboration with shared care centers has contributed significantly to this. KinderOncoNet is the logical next step.”

Invitation
With KinderOncoNet, the initiators aim to connect healthcare professionals across the Netherlands, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, dietitians, psychologists, and pediatric rehabilitation physicians. By sharing knowledge, exchanging experiences, and working in a multidisciplinary way, they can provide children with cancer the best care during and after their treatment. The KinderOncoNet team invites them: join this pediatric oncology network.

Zorgzoeker (Care Finder)
Parents and children can find all affiliated healthcare professionals in the Zorgzoeker (Care Finder). This allows them to easily see which quality care options are available near their home. "Mynke now goes independently to her physiotherapy sessions around the corner on her tricycle," says her mother, Marian. Mynke had a brain tumor and still requires intensive physiotherapy after her treatment. Since they live in Enschede, it's great that they don’t have to travel to Utrecht every time. "It gives us peace of mind knowing that our local physiotherapist is in close contact with the one at the Máxima Center."

Join after completing the e-learning
Healthcare professionals can join KinderOncoNet after completing the e-learning course ‘Introduction to Pediatric Oncology’. This course is freely accessible to healthcare professionals outside the Princess Máxima Center. The interactive e-learning provides a comprehensive introduction to pediatric oncology, including practical case studies. Upon successful completion, healthcare professionals receive a certificate and an invitation to join the network.
