Testimonial Leonie, mother of Seph

We arrived at the Princess Máxima Center on March 9, 2017. After a year of wait and see policy (with only check-ups), our 11-year-old son Seph has been at the Máxima Center for admission every three to four weeks since 2018. He is still under treatment and will remain so for the next few years.'

Inspired staff
Because our son has a special form of neuroblastoma, with concomitant problems, and he is unique in this, we have found that there is national, European and worldwide consultation. This makes me confident that we are in the right place here, despite the fact that so far thereuntil now there is no solution to his problem. We have always found the Máxima Center to be very pleasant. The staff are enormously passionate and committed. They have made a conscious choice to work at the Máxima Center and you sincerely feel that when you walk around. For us, the Máxima Center is a warm bath, a second home. There is so much expertise.

Building with peace and quiet
The building is completely designed for children. The layout has been very well thought out. The parent/child units ensure that normal life can continue as much as possible. For me personally, this meant that I could continue working from the Máxima Center in peace and quiet. There is also room for privacy and when you want to make contact, you can.

Two seemingly simple examples that have a huge impact on the peace and quiet you need as a parent in this situation: the infusion poles are in the hallway at night and as a parent you have a normal bed and not a folding bed or a sofa bed.

Out on the balcony for a while
For Seph, the teen lounge and the snooze room are favorite places in the Máxima. When he was smaller, he liked to play in the construction corner. He also loved the music room. As parents, we especially use the Ronald McDonald living room for cooking. Or we eat in the restaurant. In the summer, I really enjoy the balcony: being outside for a while. By the way, there are also washing machines so we can do some laundry, which is very nice.

Tips
To other parents I would say: 'Let it happen to you, try to enjoy the beautiful moments. And, when you run into problems: discuss them. It is my experience that people listen to you seriously and where possible something is done about it immediately.
